چکیده

Background The worldwide demand for new renewable sources of energy is rising every day [1]. Biodiesel is a green fuel made mainly from soybean oil, on average composed of 25% oleic acid and 13% palmitic acid, which negatively impacts its oxidative stability and freezing point, causing a high rate of nitrogen oxide emission [2,3]. To improve the quality and performance of soybean oil as biodiesel, manipulation of its production of fatty acids is required to increase monounsaturated acids and reduce polyunsaturated acids. This work focuses on metabolic engineering of soybean to achieve those requirements.

Conjugated fatty acids accumulate to high levels in phospholipids of metabolically engineered soybean and Arabidopsis seeds.

Expression of Delta(12)-oleic acid desaturase-related fatty acid conjugases from Calendula officinalis, Momordica charantia, and Vernicia fordii in seeds of soybean (Glycine max) or an Arabidopsis thaliana fad3/fae1 mutant was accompanied by the accumulation of the conjugated fatty acids calendic acid or alpha-eleostearic acid to amounts as high as 20% of the total fatty acids. Conjugated fatty...

An Overview of Genetic Transformation of Soybean

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) is a model legume crop, widely grown in the world for hu‐ man consumption or animal fodder. Moreover, soybeans have gained worldwide research in‐ terest in many public laboratories and industrial sectors. Soybean seeds contain protein, oil, carbohydrates, dietary fibers, vitamins, and minerals. For the last few decades the majority of research laboratories hav...

Soybean Aphid Infestation Induces Changes in Fatty Acid Metabolism in Soybean

The soybean aphid (Aphis glycines Matsumura) is one of the most important insect pests of soybeans in the North-central region of the US. It has been hypothesized that aphids avoid effective defenses by inhibition of jasmonate-regulated plant responses. Given the role fatty acids play in jasmonate-induced plant defenses, we analyzed the fatty acid profile of soybean leaves and seeds from aphid-...

Assessment of Fatty Acids and Phenolic Content of some Citrullus colocynthis Accessions seeds from Iran.

Bitter melon (Colocynth) is a species of herbs, annual medicinal plant of family Cucurbitaceae which are mainly grown in warm regions of Iran. Fatty acids of the seeds of this plant are considered as important materials, medicinally. In this study, essential fatty acids of seed collected from nine different regions of Iran were evaluated. The composition of fatty acids such as oleic, linoleic, ...

Effect of Roasted Soybean and Canola Seeds on Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors Gamma (PPARG) Gene Expression and Cattle Milk Characteristics

The aim of this research was to investigate the changes in milk yield and its composition, fatty acid profile and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors gamma (PPARG) gene expression in adipose tissue of Iranian Holstein cattle in response to feeding isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets but formulated based on different oilseeds (soybean or canola seeds). Twenty cows were tested ra...
